The creation of Caves R Us came about when some British families, went in search of information relating to caves and cave dwelling in Andalucia, Espana. The families started their missions very different ways, but  soon found that there was not very much reliable information to be found. There was the usually estate agent hype, and moreover the nonsensical myths, created by those who could only speculate, but no practical or interesting information.

It soon became apparent that a site like Caves R Us was desperately needed. Our ambitions are great, however we appreciate that this will be a time consuming project, and to make this venture work will take time and commitment .

We hope to be able to provide a lot of interesting articles and a advice for those who are contemplating becoming Troglodytes, or those who are simply interested in another way of life

Mad about Caves?  Want to know more about cave dwelling?  Go no further we are compiling a comprehensive website dedicated to everything to do with caves.  From interesting articles from all over the world, renovating tips, to providing a database of caves homes, hotels and unusual cave dwellings for sale or for rent.

Caves were often used for very practical reasons. In recent centuries, modern humans used caves for purposes such as storing fruits and vegetables and for growing mushrooms. History shows that the darkness and constant temperatures provide ideal conditions for the aging processes of some cheeses and alcoholic beverages. Some caves were used as hospitals for people with respiratory illnesses in hope that the constant atmosphere might help. Caves have provided hiding places for bandits, smugglers, counterfeiting operations, and moon-shining (making illegal whiskey). Cave waters have supplied a ready source of water for making many kinds of products. Caves have also been mined for guano , used as fertilizer through the late 1940's.

If there is some piece of information that you cannot source, contact us, let us know what information you are seeking regarding caves, and we will endeavour to source that information and include it in our weekly website update.
